Significance: First woman Supreme Court justice (Sept. 25, 1981–Jan. 31, 2006).

Notable for: Virginia v. Black (2003): This case redefined R.A.V. v. St. Paul's (1992) definition of when cross burning loses its free speech protection; Bush v. Gore (2000): This case closed the infamous Florida recount process that effectively ended Al Gore's presidential run in 2000.
